3GPP UMTS (also referred to as FOMA or 3GSM), a global mobile 3G standard, is a key component of the ITU IMT 2000 standard set. It specifies a WCDMA as the radio access technology, and also specifies a complete network system, which includes the UTRAN and the core network. This course covers the UMTS technology, services and capabilities. Network components and the WCDMA air interface including channelization codes, scrambling codes, modulation, framing and channels (logical, transport and physical) are emphasized. The UTRAN transport technologies and protocols; and signaling aspects such as cell acquisition, mobility management, RRC signaling, handoffs, and call setup scenarios are considered in detail. It offers participants an excursion of other UMTS releases as well. This course is a mandatory first step towards mastery of the UMTS standards.
Who will Benefit: Technical personnel responsible for UMTS network implementation, maintenance and troubleshooting.
Prerequisites: Participants should have prior knowledge of mobile technologies, although not mandatory
Mode of Delivery: Instructor led classes, multi-media simulations, demonstrations, videos and tutorial exercise.
